Coy Cornelius has 40 years of experience in all aspects of cosmetology, ranging from salon owner/operator to instruction, marketing, and style design. His skills include hair concepts, design, cutting, and color and chemical enhancements. His expertise has been developed and refined in a variety of salon organizations across the United States, from hairdresser to franchise management, workshop lecturer on hairdressing techniques, and platform artist for several local, national, and international companies.
Paralleling his work in cosmetology, Coy has also built a professional career as a fine art sculptor specializing in cast and fabricated metals. Since the early 1970s, Coy's ongoing practice of fine art sculpture in various media has informed and enhanced his perspective and expertise in hair style, shape, color, and texture.
Coy has extensive experience as an educator in the fields of cosmetology and art. He has conducted professional training in hairdressing with educational organizations and as an independent consultant and master tradesman. He has also taught art to all ages, including primary, secondary, and university students.

Redevelopment of Commercial District
Since 1982, Coy has been actively involved in urban renewal efforts in Youngstown, Ohio, focusing on the downtown area where his Sculptural Designs Studio is housed in a 19th century warehouse. The Graffitti Hair salon has been successfully positioned as the anchor business in the facility, in which related health, beauty, and aesthetic services are also planned or under way.
Coy's background in design and retail are valued by the municipal planning and redevelopment agencies, to which he contributes expertise on an ongoing basis. He was a board member of the Youngstown Area Arts Council from 1984 to 1987; he also served on the Youngstown Board of Trade from 1983 to 1988.
Fine Art Sculpture Recognition
Since 1975, Coy has exhibited his sculptural creations in local, regional, and national art shows, galleries, and museums, including the Butler Museum of American Art (Youngstown ), NEOCUM (Rootstown, Ohio), SPAR National Art Exhibition (Shreveport, Louisiana), and the Five State Art Exhibition (Port Arthur, Texas). His most recent designs, Ped V and Primary Shapes, are steel and glass tables that have been sold to private collectors. His work earned an honorable mention in sculpture at the Trumbull Art Guild Annual juried competitions of 1984,1986, and 1987, and first place in sculpture in 1982.
